Always remember who you are

Always remember who you are

Nothing Else Matters” – Metallica (1991)

———–

Back in high school, 30 years ago, I used to listening to this song all day long.

There is a quiet, almost bittersweet revelation that comes with age, after decades of listening to the song.

As the years and decades have settled in—along with the battles I fought, the scars I got, the late-night reflections I found myself in —I’ve begun to feel the lyrics.

The most powerful form of leadership isn’t loud, and it isn’t perfect.

It’s authenticity.

“Never opened myself this wayLife is ours, we live it our wayAll these words, I don’t just sayAnd nothing else matters…”

It’s the kind of strength that doesn’t hide behind titles or armor. It’s the courage to admit what one doesn’t know, the humility to learn from others, and the open-mindedness to let the best ideas win no matter who they come from.

Then there’s the heart—so often underestimated in the engineering world, yet so central to leading human beings.

It couldn’t be much more from the heartForever trusting who we areAnd nothing else matters

The older I grow, the more I realize that trusting the heart isn’t about being sentimental. It’s about being grounded enough to act with integrity even when the easy path tempts, brave enough to care even when it’s risky, and steady enough to remain yourself in rooms that try to shape you into someone else.

Trust I seek and I find in youEvery day for us something newOpen mind for a different viewAnd nothing else matters

Authenticity, openness, trust—three simple ideas that somehow take a lifetime to practice. Perhaps that’s why these lyrics resonate more now than ever.

They remind me.

That leadership is less about commanding , and more about becoming.

Less about directing , and more about connecting

Trust I seek and I find in youEvery day for us something new

So to the future leaders—those rising now, and those still discovering the spark within—may these words stick with you for the years to come:

🎵 “So close, no matter how farCouldn’t be much more from the heartForever trusting who we areAnd nothing else matters” 🎶
